  • Windy City Whirlwind

Chicago! The Windy City has a lot of great events blowing in around this month besides the usual tourist attractions: strolling down Michigan Avenue, bike-riding along the Lakeshore Drive, or going to the Chicago Institute of Art are always favorites for people visiting Chi-Town.

There are a lot of fun fall events to cozy up to this year. Oktoberfest celebrates the best beer in Chicago in a lovely beer garden setting. Oktoberfest at St. Alphonsus is well attended each year and loads of fun! Beer, pretzels, music and more. See their event lineup here.

Another great family event is the Halloween Farm! It's outside the city, but it's well worth the drive. Bengston's Pumpkin Fest will be going on through October the 30th. Midnight Circus in the Parks is also a great time for all ages. They will be located at several locations, so check the local paper or their website here for more information.

Walkthroughs, local food, a petting zoo and more at the Halloween Farm

A fun event for us grown-ups is the Bloody Mary Festival! Bars and restaurants will be competing to win, with you as the sampler. Sounds like a blast!

    Which Bloody Mary is best?

On a healthier note, there is also the Apple Fest on Michigan Avenue. There you'll find vendors selling candied apples, scarves, hats, and hot apple cider. Delicious!

    Satisfying for your sweet tooth

Whether you're wearing a lightweight leather jacket or a cashmere sweater in the Windy City, or you're down in Southern Florida wearing those lightweight cottons, remember that it's all about style!

  • Stay Safe East Coast!

We're just getting through the heels of Irma, and Harvey before that, and now we have Jose working its way up to Nantucket with tropical storm gusts and rain. Now Hurricane Maria is working its way up to Florida and the East Coast.

It's so important to listen for emergency updates, evacuation notices, and updates from the National Hurricane Center. Track the progress of the storms by visiting their website, here.

I just want to wish everybody, from Florida all the way across the United States and up North here in New England a safe week! My best wishes to everyone at Legends Radio, and all the listening audience.

    God Bless,

    -Bonnie

  • Stay Safe Florida!

Irma tried to get the best of all of us in South Florida, but thank God, most of my friends and family out there at Legends Radio all seem to be safe and sound.

I am very grateful, and send everyone lots of love and a speedy recovery from the storm. Let's all remember that it's the week of 9/11, and we are celebrating that we all still have our freedom to love and laugh and be entertained by wonderful people at Legends Radio!

If you want to help victims of Hurricane Irma, consider donating to GlobalGiving's Hurricane Irma Relief Fund by visiting their website here. The fund provides food, water, medication and long-term recovery efforts for victims from the US and the Caribbean.

We'll go back to our normal Bonnie's Buzz next week. Love to you all!

  • Seaport for all Seasons

Newburyport Massachusetts, only 35 minutes from Boston! It is a seaport for all seasons, and a thriving community with unique shopping, fine dining, arts and culture.

It's the birthplace of the United States Coast Guard! In the spring and summer, you can stroll through downtown while you admire the window boxes and hanging flowers and plants. Don't forget to check out all the adorable shops.

Enjoy flowers, specialty shops and fun festivals

It's Nantucket life, but easier to get to, without having to deal with the ferries that take you 30 miles across the sea. The Clipper City Rail Trail & Harborwalk  is only 1.1 miles, and it's extremely scenic. You can do birding field trips to Plum Island, or even whale watching - it all sounds amazing, for people of all ages!

You can walk or bike this fabulous trail

You don't want to miss the Custom House Maritime Museum. And in the fall, you can go to the Fall Harvest Fest. During autumn days, don't be surprised if you see that all the town lampposts have been creatively decorated. In the winter, it's fun to cross-country ski and snowshoe!

Dining and drinking for a good cause at Harvest Fest

Coming up in October for ten days, it's Savor Newburyport. There's a chili cookoff, a craft beer event, and the 2nd annual cocktail and appetizer competition. All of this does sound so delicious, and the best part is, proceeds benefit local charities!

A delicious festival for the whole family

So whether you're wearing those toasty cashmere sweaters in the brisk sea air of Newburyport Massachusetts, or the lightweight cottons on the South Florida Coast, remember, it's all about style.
